Ondo APC Unity Forum aspirants reject consensus

A crisis of confidence on Thursday hit the Unity Forum of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State.

This followed the decision of nine out of the 10 governorship aspirants to deny claims that they agreed to cede the governorship ticket to the Ondo North Senatorial District.

An earlier statement whose author and origin are still unclear, all aspirants were said to have unanimously agreed to cede the governorship position to Ondo North.

However, the aspirants, under the auspices of Aspirants’ Forum, dissociated themselves from the statement.

They noted that while it was true that they held a virtual meeting, at no time did they agree to cede the position to any part of the state.

The nine aspirants made their position known in a statement they jointly signed and made public in Akure on Thursday.

The statement read in part, “It is true that there was an online discussion on possible options of a consensus aspirant for the Unity Forum and the need for smooth relationship between aspirants, the Aspirants’ Forum did not raise, discuss or resolve on any of the grave allegations in the publication against the Unity Forum, its leadership and process during the online interaction.

“It flows from the above that the contents of the publication which was sponsored to purvey lies were never discussed.

“In the Aspirants’ Forum, we discuss issues, principles and ideas and not frivolities as represented in the publication.  It is not in our character to disparage our leaders.

The aspirants said they were members of unity forum, committed to prosperous, developed and peaceful Ondo State.

Those who signed the statement are: Mr Olayide Adelani, Mr Dapo Adelegan, Bukola Adetula, Mrs Jumoke Anifowose Mr Akin Awodeyi, Alhaji Olanrewaju Kazeem, Mr Jimi Odimayo, Chief Olusola Oke and Ifeoluwa Oyedele.
