Oil Workers Call for Investigation into Allegations of Plot Against Dangote Refinery by IOC

The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) have called for an urgent investigation into allegations of a plot against Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals by international oil companies (IOCs).

In a formal communication addressed to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and conveyed through the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, NUPENG and PENGASSAN expressed their deep concern over the allegations.

They praised the President for his commitment to economic growth and prosperity while highlighting their support for his policies.

The unions stated that Dangote Refinery has accused some IOCs of sabotaging its operations by denying it crude oil supply and inflating crude oil prices. These actions have reportedly forced the refinery to source crude oil from other countries, including the United States, leading to increased operating costs and logistical challenges.

Emphasizing the importance of Dangote Refinery as a national asset crucial for Nigeria’s energy security, economic growth, and job creation, NUPENG and PENGASSAN reiterated their longstanding advocacy for requiring companies benefiting from joint venture agreements to establish refineries and petrochemical plants within Nigeria.

They called for immediate action to investigate and address the alleged sabotage to protect the refinery and the nation’s economic interests.
