Niger NSCDC arrests 5 armed robbery suspects

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Monday said it arrested five suspected armed robbers for burgling a shop at Kasuwan Gwari in Lapai Local Government Area of the state.

Mr George Edem, the state Commandant of NSCDC in Niger, told newsmen in Minna on Monday that the suspects were arrested by the men of the command on routine surveillance.

Edem said that the suspects had confessed to have committed the crime.

He said that items recovered from the suspects were 40 pieces of new phones of different brands, two laptops, two generators, one home theaters, two motorcycles, one LG 32 inches television and cash.

He explained that the suspects confessed to have shared the phones among themselves while the money was shared among three of the suspects.

Edem said that the suspects were ex-convicts who had served various jail terms, adding that they would be charged to court immediately after investigation.

He, therefore, appealed to the public to continue to avail the command with useful information.

Leader of the gang, while speaking to newsmen, said that they broke into the shop in the night and forced the security guard to lay on the ground before stealing the items.

“After we stole the items and shared them, I then decided to board a car to Tegina. It was at the park  that I was arrested. Two among us sold their own items and bought motorcycles,” he said.
