Lockdown: Osun varsity extends tuition payment deadline after Assembly’s intervention

The Osun State University has extended the deadline for payment of tuition fee by students following the intervention of the Osun State House of Assembly.

The Lawmakers had on Sunday met with the management and leadership of the institution in Osogbo over the issue.

Mr Timothy Owoeye, Speaker of the Assembly, made this known in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kunle Alabi.

He said the Assembly decided to wade into complaints of the affected students having realised the hardship that the lockdown might have caused parents and guardians in paying school fees at the stipulated time.

The Speaker said that the assembly had received the “Save our Soul” message through its newly set up Public Complaints Resolution Mechanism in line with the legislative agenda of the assembly.

He stated that reprieve came the way of students of the university who almost got their admission suspended for not meeting up with the deadline for the payment of tuition fees when the lawmakers met with the leadership of the institution.

According to him, the 7th Assembly under his watch will not shy away from engaging the citizenry, and the House will always be there to attend promptly to discontents and requests of the people they represent.

“I also want to thank and commend the leadership of UNIOSUN for being considerate and compassionate on this issue.

“We are all aware of what the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown have caused parents and guardians. This hardship is not limited to the economy of Osun but that of the world,” he said.

It would be recalled that UNIOSUN had ordered that revisions of all Harmattan courses should be made via online platform to get students prepared for Rain Semester which would commence by the last week of May.

The university also noted that its matriculation would hold on May 13, through its online platform and that all newly admitted students must pay their tuition fees on or before the matriculation day.
