Dare foots part of Ikhana’s medical bills

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has paid part of the medical bills of former Enyimba coach Kadiri Ikhana.

This was disclosed in a statement by the media office of the sports ministry on Sunday.

The minister, however, didn’t disclose the amount paid for the medical bills of the ex-Super Falcons coach.

“I heard his plea for assistance, and I sent one of my aides to him while he was in the hospital to ascertain the level of assistance required by the coach.

“What better way to show support than to foot part of his medical bills? That is what we have done.

“Like I have always maintained, the welfare of athletes, ex-internationals and that of those who still represent us remains our priority and we will continue to be on the lookout to assist in any way we can. We wish coach Kadiri Ikhana a quick recovery,” the statement read.

Ikhana was discharged from the hospital last December, after undergoing a second hip replacement surgery.

He was part of the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winning side and is also the first Nigerian coach to win the CAF Champions League for Nigeria, leading Enyimba to victory in 2003.
