Peseiro rules out new players for Guinea Bissau clash

Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has ruled out inviting new players for September’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau but give those who could help the team a chance, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Union Berlin striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Henry Onyekuru of Olympiakos and Slavia Prague’s Peter Olayinka are some of the players who featured at the delayed 2021 AFCON that have been overlooked since Peseiro took charge of the team.

The 62-year-old coach who remains focused on improving his team ahead of their 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast is desperate to impart his ideas to his young Eagles squad.

“The players in the team at the moment are the best we have. I have watched a lot of videos and what they need to understand is our ideas and philosophy,” the Portuguese coach said.

“New players spring up every day in Nigeria but we have the best now. Okay, if I see a new player who is doing better than the player in his position. I will give him time little by little to help me understand our idea which is what we want to do more at the moment and not bring in new players.”

Peseiro led the Eagles to their biggest win in history when they thrashed minnows Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 in qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, surpassing a 10-1 triumph over Benin in 1959.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who is a target for Arsenal this transfer window, scored four goals, with three of those coming after the half-time interval.
