Oshiomhole inaugurates Bulama as APC acting national secretary

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, has inaugurated Waziri Bulama, as the new acting National Secretary of the party.

Oshiomhole administered the oath of office on Bulama at a brief ceremony held at the NEC Hall of the APC National Secretariat, in Abuja, on Monday.

The position became vacant in 2019 following the election of the former National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, as Governor of Yobe State.

Bulama’s inauguration is coming roughly two months after a crisis of confidence within the party’s ranks almost cost Oshiomhole his position.

Recall the APC Deputy National Secretary, Victor Giadom, had on May 10, 2020, announced himself as acting national secretary after an Abuja High Court granted an interim injunction restraining Oshiomhole from parading himself as national chairman.

A truce was however brokered after the intervention of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu.

The brief ceremony, was attended by the governors of Borno, Babagana Zulum and his Gombe State counterpart, Muhammed Yahaya, as well as other members of the party’s National Working Committee.

Some NWC members led by the National Vice-Chairman (North-East), Mustapha Salihu, had opposed Bulama’s choice as the party’s scribe.

A mild drama ensued at the beginning of Monday’s inauguration as Salihu, who was in attendance, stalled the event for a few minutes when he asked that newsmen be excused from the hall. After a while, reporters were readmitted and the event proceeded.

In an earlier address, Oshiomhole said, “The party had meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, the Governor of Yobe State, and also consulted other stakeholders of the party where it came to a conclusion that Waziri Bulama should be admitted as the acting National Secretary of the party pending the ratification by the National Convention.”

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the inauguration, the Gombe State Governor, Mohammed Yahaya, said, “I am very happy that it ended this way.”

He said, “It took some time for us to have this replacement but what is more important is that at the end of the day, we are able to come to a resolution and the new National Secretary has been sworn in today.

“We hope he will work with other leaders and consolidate on the gains of the party. I know Architect Buluma in the last 40 years.

“I know that he is the person of impeccable character, a person that you can vouch for and is very hardworking.

“He knows what to do. In fact, he has already started doing that trying to work and carry everybody around so that APC should deliver on its mandate and that is what he going to do.”

In his response, Bulama said he had no agenda personal agenda while pledging to work together with other party leaders to move the APC forward.
